This
well preserved chambered cairn, with three concentric walls, is splendidly
sited half way up the steep slope of Wideford Hill on Mainland (Orkney).
The almost circular cairn has a diameter of 13.5m-14.5m.
The tomb is dug back into the hillside. The low entrance passage, on the
west side facing downhill, is 5.3m long. The entry is now through a hatch
in the roof.
The passage leads to a rectangular main chamber, measuring 3m x 1.4m, with
three side-cells. The cells were empty at the time of excavation (1849),
and the central chamber was full of rubble and earth.
