Six
stones plus a massive grey granite recumbent and its two flankers stand
on a low stone bank, a particular feature of stone circles in the Buchan
area (Grampian). Chips of white quartz had been scattered over the bank.
A large stone 2m to the east of the ring was used to break the lumps of
white quartz. In the bank, the remains of a cremated woman and a cist were
found.
Another cist at the centre of the ring indicates a later use of the site.
The circle was in a very bad condition: archaeological survey and restoration
carried out in 1980-82 rescued it.
