HENGE
Normangill image

One of the Scotland's best examples of a henge, sadly cut in two by a public road. It measures 61m x 55m from crest to crest and is oval on plan with 3m between the bank and the ditch.
The bank is up to 0.7m high and composed mainly of earth. Its southernmost end was destroyed by the construction of a sheepfold. The internal ditch is 4m wide and 0.3m deep.
There are two broad entrances to the NNW and to the SSE.
