Scord
of Brouster
SETTLEMENT,
KERBED CAIRN |
The
hillside of Scord of Brouster (Shetland) is littered with the remains of
a Neolithic settlement. Some oval houses and their system of interlinked
field walls have been found. The largest house measures 5m x 7m internally
and contains a central hearth surrounded by cells divided by massive orthostats.
Other features include an oblong stone enclosure about 60m long and a perfectly
circular kerbed cairn (in the photo), that is one of the latest structures
of the site. |
