A
recumbent stone circle of the Buchan type (i.e. set on a low stone bank).
It comprises nine uprights and a massive, 9-ton basalt recumbent. At the
centre there was a ring cairn where three burial pits were found.
After excavation in 1975-78, Aubrey Burl revealed that the site was vandalised
around 1700 BC by people who built a rough wall, probably an enclosed cremation
cemetery around the circle.
