Art to raise Ridgeway's profile
A campaign to raise public awareness of a historic countryside area to safeguard it for the future is to be launched next month. The campaign is to use a range of arts to get people interested in and to understand the history of the South Dorset Ridgeway, north of Weymouth (England). Photography and painting competitions are among the ways organisers hope to raise awareness of the area.
The project begins with an awareness day in Portesham on 5 November. Project spokesman Tony Flux said: "The Ridgeway is outstandingly attractive, but what is really important is the fact that the Neolithic and Bronze Age landscape is remarkably intact. If people understand the area, chances are they will look after it better."
