Stonehenge centre decision delayed
A decision over a proposed £67m new visitor centre at Stonehenge has been delayed until the summer. English Heritage has applied for permission for the centre on the outskirts of Amesbury, Wiltshire (England). As well as an exhibition centre and cafe, the plans include a train to transport visitors to the monument.
Salisbury District Council says a number of issues have arisen from the consultation "which need to be taken back to the applicants". The council says that it received more than 800 responses to the consultation. A spokesman said the additional information required from English Heritage should be with the council by late spring or early summer. A 21-day consultation will then be held and the application will go before the council's planning committee.
David Milton, from Salisbury District Council, said that they needed all the facts before proceeding. "This is a major application - the biggest in this council's history - and we are determined that everything is in place before councillors are asked to make their decision."
